THE ONE WITH THE RED FLAG IS A LUCKY GUY

(Tisti z ”rdečo zastavico” je srečnež)

Digitalna grafika

Slika z naslovom THE ONE WITH THE RED FLAG IS A LUCKY GUY je nastala leta 2021 v Ljubljani. Uporabil je mešano tehniko in ustvaril digitalno grafiko v sodobni umetnosti v seriji Ko-lapsus. Mere slike so 70 cm x 50 cm x 4 cm.

Uporabljene so različne barve in odtenki barv.

Slika 2: The one with the red flag is a lucky guy (Vir: https://www.sloart.si/patrik-dvorscak-the-one-with-the-red-flag-is-a-lucky-guy.)

THE ONE WITH THE RED FLAG IS A LUCKY GUY

Digital graphic

The author of the painting is Patrik Dvorščak, born in 1995 in Čakovec, Croatia, but originally from Ribnica. He attended the Secondary School for Design and Photography, gymnasium program. He then continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, majoring in Painting. He successfully graduated in 2017, followed by his completing of the master’s degree in Painting in 2022. The painting entitled THE ONE WITH THE RED FLAG IS A LUCKY GUY was made in 2021 in Ljubljana. He used mixed techniques and created the digital graphic in the contemporary art style in the series dubbed Ko-lapsus. The dimensions of the painting are 70 cm x 50 cm x 4 cm.

It is made in the artist’s unique style reminiscent of “chaos” as it does not depict realistic or precise shapes but rather blurred imagery. Nevertheless, we can recognize the outline of a crowd, which is expressed with enough precision that one can perceive and recognize certain shapes. The space is illustrated by a blue band at the top of the painting while its composition is vertical. The painting can be divided into two parts. The first part fills three quarters of the picture, extending from the bottom right to the bottom left corners. The second part is situated in the top left corner, filling one quarter of the picture. Dvorščak employed various colours in different shades. The first part of the picture is predominantly yellow, which attracts the viewer’s attention. Yellow is used to create a crowd of male bodies. Meanwhile, the second part of the painting is mostly pink and white, which denotes the female gender and helps the viewer to seemingly divide the painting into two parts.

Looking at the first part of the picture, we can observe a crowd of male persons, who have their faces shown as distorted and radiating an evil atmosphere. Their bodies are accentuated with sexual organs. In the second part of the picture a pink banner stands out, showing the female sex in human form with a bird’s beak. It is recognizable by its curves typical of the female gender. These images are painted inside a rectangle on the far left of the painting. In this section at the left side of the painting, we should see a half-image of a man on a cross, supposedly representing the aforementioned man with the bad features—the one with the red flag. The theme of the painting is secular as it shows nudity and hints at sexuality. The message of the painting tells us that individuals who are marked by bad habits are often chosen by the female gender. It is the negative characteristics of the male sex that are problematic for women and which they do not want to see and perceive in a man, but rather overlook.

The artwork was created under the influence of the outside world and the media, which expanded the meaning of the red flag. The painting can be understood by many people who are familiar with and understand the meaning of the red flag. The artist himself is concerned with people, light and space, as well as their interconnectedness. This painting focuses on the problems of today’s society, reminding us of the dull and shallow aspects of everyday life. Patrik Dvorščak lives in Ribnica, where he has also showcased his work, specifically in Mikl House Gallery. He also exhibits in Ljubljana, as can be seen on his Instagram profile. Through his art, both young and old generation can find connection. He has put the spotlight on us—the individuals responsible for our own lives and the lives of others during our existence—and therefore tries to put the viewer in a given position. The artist questions the global, social, natural, mental and psychological challenges of today’s civilization, which seem to have no clear solutions; this concept can be felt in the painting itself. It can be compared with other contemporary works by the same artist, as they are all made in the same technique and style. One of these works is the painting Susej12, which is comparable to the work described here.

The painting is, in my opinion, a priceless product, because it has a very interesting technique and style. I experience it differently because I was attracted to its technique from the beginning, and it influences me to think deeply about all the factors in the artwork. I can focus on individual details and interpret the painting and its message in a different way. I personally see it as an example of young people, their views of today’s world and how the media dominate our lives.
