Kontrast med abstrakcijo in figuraliko
Bodeča neža je umetniško delo umetnika Jože Centa. Nastala je leta 1974. Slika ima dimenzije 81 x 60 cm. Naslikana je na platnu z oljnimi barvami, kar ji daje lep sijaj in realističen zgled. Shranjena je v Zbirki Likovnega salona v Pokrajinskem muzeju Kočevje.

Izbrana umetnina je zanimiva zaradi tega, kako se je umetnik poigral s prostorom in geometrijskimi oblikami ter tako oblikoval perspektivo slike. Slika je postavljena navpično. Središče oziroma težišče slike je večinoma v zgornjem delu platna. Glavni motiv slike (bodeča neža) je naslikan tako, da se začne z vazo v spodnjem delu platna, dolge rože pa pritegnejo pozornost navzgor, zato rečemo, da ima navpično kompozicijo.
Vaza je okrogla, desni del je svetlejši, levi pa temnejši. Svetloba prihaja z desne strani in tako vaza pridobi trodimenzionalno obliko. Lahko opazimo tudi, da se v spodnjem delu slike pod vazo vidi njen odsev, kot da leži na vodi. Tudi (bodeče neže) rože delujejo trodimenzionalno in imamo občutek, da imajo mehko teksturo zaradi slikarske tehnike, ki jo je uporabil slikar. Ozadje na drugi strani, je malo drugačno od vaze in rož. Zdi se bolj dvodimenzionalno in se ne prilega k vazi in rožam. Zgleda kot mozaik številnih pravokotnikov in kvadratov različnih barv.
Ta slika ima veliko barv, kot so: modra, bela, črna, rdeča, zelena, rumena in rjava. Barve ozadja so temnejše od barv vaze in rož, ki so svetle in na katere pada svetloba. Slikar s pomočjo barv in njihovih nians pričara realističnost slike.
Ko pogledamo sliko kot celoto, lahko vidimo, da je slika hkrati tako abstraktna kot figuralna. Vaza, njen odsev in rože predstavljajo figuralni del, ozadje iz raznobarvnih ekspresivnih pravokotnikov različnih velikosti pa abstraktni del. Tema je posvetna, motiv je tihožitje.
Nadja Kovačič je zapisala, da so tihožitja: “Izrazito ateljejske mojstrovine. V umirjenih kompozicijah pokaže mojstrstvo opazovanja in podajanja zunanjega sveta, ki mu doda pridih svojega notranjega občutenja.”(Kovačič , 2011)

Jože Centa, prvi povojni maturant iz Kočevja, je po gimnaziji razmišljal o študiju na področju igralske umetnosti, arhitekture in likovne umetnosti. Božidar Jakac ga je prepričal, da se posveti likovni umetnosti, ki ga je privlačila že v gimnazijskih letih. Sprva je Centa obiskoval slikarstvo in kiparstvo na Akademiji za likovno umetnost, a ga je zdravstveni izziv usmeril zgolj v slikarstvo. Diplomiral je pri slikarju Gojmirju A. Kosu, ki ga je vpeljal v uporabo barv. Po vojaškem roku je postal likovni pedagog v Ljubljani in ključen za oživitev likovnega življenja v Ribnici. Centa se osredotoča na krajinske motive in tihožitja. Krajine, večinoma naslikane v olju, odražajo impresionistično razdrobljenost, ki pričara atmosfero in občutenje trenutka. Kot pobudnik srečanj slikarjev je prispeval k prepoznavnosti Ribnice kot likovnega centra. Z njegovimi deli je oživel spomin na izginjajočo preteklost in prispeval k dediščini ter razvoju likovne umetnosti v Sloveniji.
Ta slika zgleda kot vsaka druga slika nežive narave, vendar je drugačna. Edinstvena je zaradi kontrasta med abstraktnim in figuralnim (realističnim) delom. Všeč mi je zaradi veliko detajlov, ki ji dajejo značaj, a jih na prvi pogled ne vidimo, kot je na primer odsev vaze. Zanimiva je tudi zaradi raznobarvnosti, kar je naredi veselo in pozitivno. Ta slika nam pokaže, da je lepota v majhnih stvareh in čeprav je svet drugačen, to ne pomeni, da ni lep, pravzaprav ga dela posebnega.

Contrast between abstraction and figural
’’Carolina acaulius“ is an art piece by Jože Centa. In was made in 1974. The dimensions of the painting are 81 x 60 cm. It was painted on a canvas with oil paints, which gives it a nice shine and a realistic look. As part of the collection of the Kočevje Art Salon, it is located on the premises of the Kočevje Financial office.
The art piece is interesting because of how the artist plays with space and geometric shapes and thus shapes the perspective of the painting. The painting is oriented vertically. The center of gravity is mostly in the upper part of the canvas. The main motif of the painting is depicted so that it begins with the vase in the bottom part of the canvas, the long flowers attract attention upwards, which is why we say that it has a vertical composition.
The vase is round, the right part of it being lighter than the left one. The light is coming from the right side and that’s how the vase gets it’s three-dimensional look. We can also see that in the lower part of the painting under the vase we can se it’s reflection, as if it’s standing on water. Also the plants(carolina acaulius) look three-dimensional and we have the feeling that they have a fluffy texture because of the technique used by the painter. The background, on the other hand, is a bit different than the vase and plant. It looks more two-dimensional and it doesn’t fit with the rest of the painting. It looks like a mosaic formed from many rectangles and squares of different colours.
The painting has many colours, such as blue, white, black, red, green, yellow and brown. The colours of the background are darker than the ones of the vase and plant, which are brighter because of the lighting. The painter helps conjure up the realism of the picture with the help of colours and their nuances.
When we look at the picture as a whole, we can see that it is abstract and figural both at the same time. The vase, it’s reflection and flowers represent the figural part while the background from many colourful, expressive rectangles of different sizes represents the abstract part. The theme is secular and the motif is still-life.
Nadja Kovačič wrote about still life paintings and said that they are ’’distinctly studio masterpieces. In Centa’s calm compositions, he shows his mastery of observing and presenting the external world, to which he adds a touch of his inner feeling.“
Jože Centa, the first post-war graduate from Kočevje, thought about studying in the fields of performing arts, arhitecture and fine arts after finishing high school. Božidar Jakac convinced him to devote himself to fine arts, which had already interested him in his high school years. At first, Centa studied sculpture and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts but his medical condition directed him only towards painting. He graduated under the mentorship of the painter Gojmir A. Kos, who introduced him to the use of colours. After his military service, he became an art teacher in Ljubljana and played a key role in the revival of artistic life in Ribnica. Centa focuses on landscape motifs and still life. Landscapes, mostly painted in oil, reflect an impressionistic fragmentation that conjures up the atmosphere of the feeling of the moment. As the initiator of painters’ meetings, he contributed to the recognition of Ribnica as an art center. With his works, he revived the memory of the disappearing past and contributed to the heritage and development of fine arts in Slovenia.
This particular artwork looks like every other still life painting; however, it is different because of the following ways, it is unique because of the contrast between the abstract and figural (realistic) part. I like it because of its many details which give it character and which we don’t see at first, like the vase’s reflection. It is also interesting because of its vividness, which makes it cheerful and positive. This painting shows us that the beauty is in the little things such as these little details from the painting itself.
